About Me

I'm so glad you came to visit me. My blog is pretty much a revealer of who I am. I'll admit, I don't hold much back - I pretty much just say what's on my mind and in my heart. People seem to prefer me that way (so do I).

I have an amazing husband who I've been married to since Dec. 17th 1988. We've gone through joyful times and we've suffered tremendous heartache together. We've had nine children and have said goodbye to three of them. To read a condensed version of our story, please go here: What Can Be Gained Through Heartache.

My heart's desire is to touch and inspire the lives of those who God puts in my path. There's nothing special about me, but there is something very special about the One who not only offered me eternity with Him but also carried me through some terribly difficult times and made me exceedingly joyful! He's shown me that each and every trial in my life has been for a beautiful and valuable purpose.

I love to laugh and hope to make you laugh a little too! Please let me know you stopped by. I love making new "chums"!

About My Book

About six months after my daughter Anna died, God placed a strong desire within me to write our story. I didn't think I'd be able to because I was still missing my daughter so desperately, but I think that the timing was imperative. God knew the condition of heart would enhance my ability to share my story with tenderness and honesty. It was difficult but he gave me strength to complete the task and brought another level of healing for me in the process.

Most of my book was written between the hours of 10:00pm and 2:00am. Being a home-schooling mom and having many children to attend to, my days were completely full. I didn't get much sleep during those months, but God's grace was sufficient and I feel so blessed to have been given the ability to endure.

My book isn't so much about me as much as it's about how God worked lovingly and faithfully in my life.

About My Ministry

Our family also started a ministry called Growing Through Affliction. This is a ministry was designed with growth and victory in mind.

Here's what the main page of the website says:

"Suffering through the loss of a loved one is one of the most difficult afflictions to bear, but if you're there, you're there for a reason. Nothing happens without a divine purpose. While it seems unfair and you'd rather not be chosen to suffer, Growing through Affliction was designed to help you find that purpose and to see that being chosen is not a curse but a blessed privilege.

There are many support groups and forums, helpful websites and ministries to offer you a helping hand through your loss and sorrow. While we also want to be that compassionate friend, we have an additional goal; we also want to be a friend that encourages you to go beyond merely surviving. Each article, scripture, bible study, and devotional message was created to give you a vision for your future and allow you to catch a glimpse of God's beautiful calling for you.

Whether you're a mom, dad, child, teen, or grandparent, we're here to guide you as you find that divine purpose. We're not only here to support you but we're here to help you to Grow through your Affliction."

If you or someone you love could use some encouragement, please visit Growing Through Affliction.
